The Shomolu Local Government Has Suspended One of it’s Councilor,Hon.Tosin Odubanjo for six months without salary. The 10th legislative Council reconvened earlier for plenaery on 3rd of October under the Leader of the House, Rt. Hon.Oyeyiola Tunde James . the session opened prayers by Hon.David Joseph Olugbenro and included a solemn minute of silence in honor of the late Hon.Mayabikan BasiratOluwakemu, Councilor representing Ward F, who passed away on September 21, 2025.
During the sitting, Hon.David Joseph Olugbenro raised a matter of urgent concern regarding an incident that occurred on October 3rd With The Chief Whip of the Council, Hon.Sinat Adelaja, in the presence of the Council leader, The Executive Chairman, and constituents.
He further reported that later the same day, Hon.Odubanjo struck the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon.Ibrahim Oduntan, in the presence of the Lagos State Lawmaker representing Somolu Constituency, Hon.Abiodun Orekoya.
Hon.Olubiyi Afolarin, Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, informed the House that the committee had investigated the matter thoroughly and confirmed acts of gross misconduct and physical assault.
Supporting the disciplinary motion, the Majority Leader, Hon.Raheem Afeez, stressed the need to uphold the Councils laws,rules, and ethical codes, and further recommended that the resolution be communicated to all relevant stakeholders.
Resolution of the House
After extensive deliberations, the Shomolu 10th legislative House rolled out series of stringent measures on the Ward A Councilor partly Forfeiture of Benefits as all salaries, allowances and entitlements due to Hon.Odubanjo are withheld for the duration of his suspension.
Restriction Order: The suspended Councilor must vacate the Council premises and maintain a minimum distance not less than 1,000 metres from the Council Chambers, offices, and the Shomolu Local Government Secretariat until Further notice.
Enforcement: Security agencies and relevant authorities are mandated to ensure strict compliance with this resolution.
Administrative Sanction: The management of Shomolu Local Government is directed to suspend all official activities, engagements, and transactions with Hon.Odubanjo pending further directives from the Legislative Council.
The Council emphasized that the actions of Hon.Odubanjo constitute a serious breach of legislative ethics. decorum, and integrity. Members reaffirmed their collective commitment to discipline and to safeguarding the dignity of the Council.
