AYOBO-IPAJA LCDA :ENTER THE RESPONSIVE WORKING MAYOR, AS OLO WEIGH’S IN ON TACKLING  ENVIRONMENTAL INFRACTION AND HAZARDS OF INDISCRIMINATE OPEN WASTE DUMPING ON MAJOR ROADS..

Every Passing Day, Tons of waste are generated repeatedly contributing to release of harmful pollutants in the atmosphere causing negative impacts on human health and our environment.

The habitual rate of improper waste disposal practices indulged by the people exacerbates far reaching challenges including extreme weather and severe complications with respiratory illness.

It is the inappropriate discarding of waste materials that caught the attention of the Newly Sworn Executive Chairman to swing into Action by collaborating with The Agency in charge of Lagos State  Waste Clearing And Disposal Management (LAWMA) To effectively send a warning signal to perpetrators fond of dislodging refuse at every given non designated areas, more especially sidewalks and major roads.

In a proactive bid to embark on a thorough clean up exercise of the entire major roads strategically located in the hearts of Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Authority (LCDA), The Executive Chairman At the Helm of Affairs, Otunba Oluwaloni Oladipupo referred to As OLO 1 accompanied by Members of the Executive Cabinet And Legislative Arm with Entire Management Staff Took to the Major Roads on Thursday 9th of April 2025 on a clean up of waste refuse dumped indiscriminately, an eyesore and public nuisance confronting road users and passerby on a day to day basis.

The Entire Team of Council officials and LAWMA Trucks  Were all actively on ground with working tools such as spades sighted evacuating pile of wastes alongside the oluwaga -ayobo busy axis while inspecting the outstretch of medians topography down to Baden junction precisely before getting to the link up bridge on the border of Aiyetoro extension inwards Ogun State.

Open refuse dumping as constantly engaged by residents can have adverse effects on the aesthetic degradation of its landscape and adjoining surroundings if left unattended to, but with the umpteenth intervention of the OLO Administration who is poised to ridding of these ugly trend and setting an hygienic with green gas ecosystem friendly vision for the people under his watch.

Speaking to our correspondent, The Party Secretary For All Progressives Congress (APC Ayobo-Ipaja) Alhaji Ayilara who was part of the entourage had this to say about the Clean Up Ayobo Exercise ” The New Chairman is actually playing out his part in fulfilment of the Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu of Lagos State’s T.H.E.M.E.S AGENDA With Special Consideration To  Health Criteria Where as you can see perpetual abuse of waste disposal by our people has to be nipped in the bud and more so send a warning on those are in the act of desecrating the environs via unwarranted open dumping to desist from such practice or else once apprehended they will be faced with stiff measures and penalties as offenders. I therefore appeal that they must resist the temptation or urge to flout the imposing laws that frowns against the act of environmental sabotage..OLO is working and it is against this backdrop that we want to enforce strict adherence to the maintainance of our road medians with constant monitoring of defaulters who are likely to dump waste on the cleared parts as we have laid down surveillance mechanisms to checkmate the incessant acts as observed, this he concluded.

In a similar development, a resident who pleaded anonymity was of a different opinion, according to him ‘ What we are witnessing is a lack lustre approach by the works department who don’t actually perform their statutory duties as ought to, most times during the raining season all the connecting roads from NEPA to Megida is always flooded due to lack of constant desilting or evacuation of the stucked debris blocking the tunnels resulting to an overflow of waste discarded materials on the roads and this poses as a health risk to residents within these highlighted areas mentioned, another area of caution is lack of task force team to be on ground so as to curtail the antics of those who willful dispose refuse on the major roads, there must be a deterrence for such reckless acts if not the whole essence of today’s impromptu clean up activity will not only be jeopardised but steeped in utmost futility. I advise the Chairman to up his game by placing strategic sign post at every black spot marked as a dump site to ward off and prohibit future occurrence on the part of the people.

One Major Take  From the Clean Up Ayobo-Ipaja Initiative is the Fact that the Newly inaugurated Executive Chairman Otunba Oluwaloni Oladipupo’s Administration has started on a clean slate by taking charge of the salient factors of the times while identifying proactive means to approach headlong detailed blueprint of waste management via strategic synergy with the LAWMA Agency on how to effectively tackle the rise of  open waste disposal on our major roads, we only pray that more consideration should be channelled to public awareness campaigns through the CDA’s and Community Leaders on the pivotal need to propagate the act of proper waste control and dislodgement with constant patronage of the Private Sector Refuse Collectors (PSP) on how they can mitigate the disturbing trend of environmental infractions with recourse to uncontrolled disposal of refuse dumping at large.
