Akinwande Soji Ojo, The Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State has reserved ruling on the bail application of Dele Farotimi, to Friday, December 20 2024. Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeisun, who adjourned ruling on the bail application on  Tuesday, remanded Farotimi in Ado Ekiti Correctional Center.

Farotimi is facing charged related to defamation against Senior Advocate of Nigeria Age Babalola in his book ‘ Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System’, in which he accused Babalola of Corrupting Supreme Court judges.

He was apprehended in Lagos and subsequently brought to Ekiti State, Where he us facing a total of 16  Charges. Farotimi has pleaded not guilty to all counts.

The police prosecutor requested his remand in prison while further investigations are conducted, while his attorney argued for bail on liberal terms, emphasizing the presumption of innocence.F

The Embattled Human Rights Lawyer And Activist who arrived at the court premises in a police security van, accompanied by correctional officers at approximately 10:00 am.

The court’s decision to delay the ruling has sparked reactions as a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore expressed total displeasure on the outcome of today’s ruling.

Farotimi was arrested in Lagos state by officers of the Ekiti State Police Command following a defamation lawsuit filed by Chief Age Babalola. the Allegation stem from claims that the lawyer made defamatory statements about the legal luminary. The case has since drew a lot of reactions from the general public as the clamour for his release has raised eyebrows, sparking massive condemnation over the manner of his sudden arrest and detention cited as an abuse of his fundamental rights.
