Lagos state Government in collaboration with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) and Development partners (WHO,UNICEF) issued an official directive to the general public via it’s agency, the Lagos state primary health care board an upcoming free polio vaccine campaign tagged National Immunization Plus Days(NIPDs) throughout Lagos, Scheduled to commence on 7th of October 2023.
In a communique signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Ibrahim A. Mustapha, The Health Awareness Campaign is to be observed and implemented via door to door polio vaccination targeted at children ranging within the ages of 0-5years across various communities located under the 376 respective Wards that makes up Lagos State.
The intended OBR (Outbreak Response) vaccine which is a precautionary measure facilitated by the Babajide Sanwo-olu led Administration in continuation with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda is solely meant to curb and more so mitigate the rising challenge of poliomyelitis diseases on toddlers leading to early childhood deformity on the areas of legs and arms inclined.
The objective of the NIPDs is to ensure strict compliance with the health directive making it necessary children from 0-5years receive two drops of the oral polio virus irrespective of their previous immunization status
An assembled vaccination team has been earmarked and ready to be dispatched for the campaign exercise through visitation to communities,schools,mosques, churches, markets,shopping plazas and other places for the success of the coming program in view.
Date of Commencement will be on the 7th October while time is fixed to start at 7 am prompt daily. In view of the outlined exercise the Permanent Secretary urged Community leaders,Parents with Respective Stakeholders to make their wards available for the Health Awareness Vaccination Train Coming to their neighborhoods and environs as a matter of urgency he beckoned.
