CUSTOMER RECOUNT HOW HIS FIRST BANK ACCOUNT WAS HACKED TO HIS DISMAY. VOWS TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION

Mr Adebayo Baderin who resides at Ayobo environs is still yet to recover from the shock of losing the sum of sixty thousand naira via his first bank account which he operates at its Megida Branch this morning.

According to him, he called his bank intimating them of a bank transaction done via his account to one of the gaming brands (Sporty bet) after ignoring an OTP sent to him requesting him to approve the process initiated or call them, which he refused to grant instantly, he later called the bank to raise alarm, when he got a debit alert and was asked by the bank official if he initiated the said transaction which he refused such transaction at, first was caught off guard with such question posed at him since he never approved prior authorization of the said figure of amount (#60,000) to start with..he immediately debunked the claim on the spot,however he was astonished to get a debit of sixty thousand naira (#60.000) after hours later which made him to call the customer line of the first bank branch situated at Megida Ayobo to lodge complaints with his displeasure even upon reiterating that he never had any dealings with the game brand (Sporty bet ) let alone order any withdrawal from his account with the Bank in view.

In a recorded audio forwarded to Ayobo/Ipaja TV by the aggrieved customer in person of Mr Baderin. An email including O.T.P was sent to him with recourse that he ordered a sporty bet tranfer of #60,000 out of his account which he denied on the spot.

However in the ensuing drama, the customer care representative of the Megida First bank branch ,who identified his name as Mr Richard appealed to the enraged customer who was not in the mood to entertain further stories on the debited account, by assuring that within 24 working hours the bank would try to resolve the situation. In his words ” if the transaction was a failed one,Mr Baderin will get an instant revert via his account but if it’s successful his account will be debited but he can make an urgent call to the bank where preliminary investigation will be established as to ascertain from the merchant platform where the issue will be escalated to appropriate unit in tracking the destination of the reported transaction.

All this purported avenue deplored to ease the fears and contain the perplexed state of the aggrieved customer proved abortive as he boiled with uncontrollable annoyance the more, a scenario expected from the victim inevitably who in a bid to unravel how his account with the Bank was hacked and mysterious removal of money used to gamble via sporty bet..the customer care officer declined to supply details instead he tactically evaded the question.

Based on the ugly incident Mr Adebayo Baderin has vowed to take legal actions against the Megida Branch of First Bank if they fail to revert and retrieve his money (#60,000) back into his account unfailingly. Leaving the question of how and where exactly did the money in dispute disappeared to without any records to show. This appalling manner of incessant debiting of customers accounts without their knowledge has overtime become alarming .one might tend to fathom how the banks which is meant to safeguard one’s account from a third party gaining unrestricted access to it has failed totally beyond expectations as there is more inundated grey areas begging for the needful clarifications.

Suffice to assert that a lot of discrepancies are being perpetrated within the fore walls of our corporate banking institutions and it is high time we call the auspices of Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN)to wade in to the murky waters of these unethical conducts as a regulator that it is and use it’s discretionary powers to curb the excessive nature of some erring banks noted with these fraudulent antecedents .The ordeal of Mr Adebayo is one out of many innocent Nigerians who have lost a great deal of their lifetime savings through the negligence of their banks whom the duty of care is placed in their trust but is somewhat engrossed with recourse to flagrant and reckless breach of accountability as required. we await the management of First Bank to wade into the unfolding brouhaha as their reputation and corporate image is at stake.
