In a bid to awaken civic consciousness and promote active youth participation in Nigeria’s democratic process,Pastor Olugbenga Aguda, the newly appointed Youth Coordinator of the Christian Directorate, Grassroots Mobilisation for Tinubu (GMT) 2027, is making strategic moved that aim to unite Christian youths for progressive political engagement.
Pastor Aguda, a vibrant and devoted cleric, has pledged his unwavering commitment to the GMT cause,aligning under the leadership of Arch-Bishop Sunday Ehindero, Head of the Christian Directorate for Lagos state. He also acknowledged the immense mentorship and guidance of Cardinal James Omolaja Odumbaku, JP,FPA,D.H,MFR, A Spiritual Icon revered for his grassroots influence and active support for youth empowerment.
With the 2027 elections in view, Pastor Aguda is setting the Stage for a renewed wave of political awareness among Christian Youths. Here are likely programs to be launched under his coordination to boost youth civic participation.
1.”Faith &Vote” Civic Education Seminars.
These interactive sessions will be organized in churches and Christian youth fellowships across Lagos State.
Topics will include: .Voter registration and verification,Understanding your civic duties from a biblical perspective, The power of a single vote in shaping governance.
2.”Youth For Democracy” Campus Tours.
Pastor Aguda plans to visit tertiary institutions especially Christian student fellowships, to educate ,and inspire youths to take active roles in the political process.
3. Digital Campaign: #PrayAndVote
Using social media platforms, a faith based campaign will be launched to promote electoral awareness through:
.Engaging content on Instagram, TikTok,Facebook and X platforms. Weekly devotionals with civic themes, Short videos of youth testimonies on voting.
4.Voter Registration Drive in Churches.
Partnering with INEC and local churches, GMT 2027 will facilitate on-site voter registration booths before deadline. Pastors and Youth leaders will be empowered to mobilize their congregations.
5.Leadership Development Workshops.
Training sessions for youth on:
.Political leadership and ethics, Community Service And Volunteerism ,Policy advocacy and peaceful election monitoring .
6.”Christian Youth Town Hall Meetings”
These open forums will bring together youth leaders, clergy and public officials to discuss pressing issues and policy expectations from elected leaders.
7. Election Day Support Network
Mobilizing volunteers to : Assist elderly and first time voters, Provide logistics for voting accessibility, Encourage a peaceful participation through prayer stations and support groups.
